Here Are Government Shutdown Deals In Philadelphia

As the partial federal government shutdown continues, some Philadelphia institutions are offering deals to furloughed workers.

PHILADELPHIA — The partial federal government shutdown is still ongoing. And several Philadelphia institutions are offering deals to those government workers who have been furloughed.

Check out where those out of work for now can get a good deal as they await the government's reopening.

Philadelphia Art Museum

The museum is offering free general admission — which includes access to the museum’s collections, current exhibitions, and many programs — to all federal employees, as well as one guest each, as long as the shutdown is still in effect. All government workers need to do is show a Federal Government ID at any admission desk. Kids 12 and under are always free.

Please Touch Museum

Government employees and anyone with prepaid tickets to closed federal attractions can get $5 off their admission to the Please Touch Museum.

Eastern State Penitentiary

A $2 discount is being offered to federal employees impacted by the shutdown. Use the code OPENINPHL when buying tickets online here to get the deal.

Museum of the American Revolution

One of Philadelphia's newest museums, the Museum of the American Revolution is giving federal government workers free admittance to the museum. Federal workers must show valid government ID at the front desk to redeem the offer.

Penn Museum

Federal government workers who are furloughed during the shutdown can get in the musuem for free as the shutdown continues. With a valid ID, furloughed workers and up to five family members will get in the museum for free.

The Pineville Fishtown

The Fishtown eatery is offering free chicken dinners to federal workers until the shutdown is resolved. The offer is good for any U.S. employees and their immediate families every night of the week, and federal employees can take advantage of this offer as often as they'd like. All they need to do is show a valid ID.

Academy of Natural Sciences

Federal employees affected by the government shutdown and their families can get in the museum with a pay as you wish model through Jan. 31 or until the government reopens. Workers must show federal ID to get the deal. Groups using the deal are limited to four people.

Independence Seaport Museum

The museum is offering free admission to those in the US Coast Guard and National Park Service, as well as all federal employees who are affected by the partial government shutdown. Just show your valid government ID to get free admission for you and up to three guests. The deal is good until the government reopens.

Walnut Street Theater

Furloughed Federal government workers can get a free ticket for the theater's production of Ken Ludwig’s "A Comedy of Tenors" during the first two weeks of its run, Jan. 15 to Jan. 26. Each federal employee is eligible for two free tickets while supplies last, as each showing has a number of free tickets set aside for worker. Call the theater at (215) 574-3550, extension 1 for more information on the deal.
